Letter: Most of informed Americans were against this war
Monday, April 14, 2003 | 9:19 a.m.
His administration used preemptive action, setting a new unacceptable standard: Any nation can attack any other nation without due cause.
The administration refuses to tell us how many civilian casualties were caused by our weapons of mass destruction. (Fifty percent of Iraqis were under the age of 15 when the war began, according to reliable news sources. We were killing and maiming children). How many allies were killed?
The majority of informed Americans were actually against this war, as well as 80 percent of most European countries. The Arab/Islamic countries were against the war and there is a good chance fundamentalists in those nations will come into power. None of this meant anything to Bush.
Now the Bush administration is talking about invading Syria and others it does not like.
This is empire building. Remember how the Roman Empire disintegrated?
In addition, the president took our deficits from zero to billions with more to come, which zaps the taxpayer.
While the average person's attention was on the war, environmental laws were trashed -- our clean air and water and forests. Our economy, prescription drugs, and the CEO debacles were ignored.
The Congress gave carte blanche to an administration that was detrimental to all of us.
"Wait and see?" We've waited and we've seen. And all too many do not like the picture of the future.
