State health office being consolidated in Las Vegas

Friday, April 11, 2003 | 9:45 a.m.

SUN CAPITAL BUREAU

The state Office of Consumer Health Assistance, which helps consumers and injured employees understand their rights under insurance plans, is being consolidated in Las Vegas.

Greg Bortolin, press secretary to Gov. Kenny Guinn, said today that the four-person office in Carson City will be closed and the positions will be transferred to Las Vegas.

Valerie Rosalin, a registered nurse who heads the agency, is already based in Southern Nevada. Bortolin said 70 percent of the people are in Las Vegas. And the requests for assistance from Northern Nevada can be made through a toll-free telephone number or e-mail.

The office also handles complaints from consumers about health insurance plans or industrial insurance coverage.

The office has seven employees. None of those in Carson City wanted to take a transfer so they will be put on a waiting list for other state jobs.

The office has three workers including Rosalin in the Sawyer State Office Building in Las Vegas.
