Senate urges UNLV and UNR to join same league

By voice vote, the state Senate on Monday approved a resolution urging the athletic directors of UNLV and Nevada-Reno to work toward playing in the same athletic conference.
Senate Concurrent Resolution 19 also said the schools, if they get in the same conference, should try to schedule their annual football game as close to Nevada Day, Oct. 31, as possible.
Sen. Maurice Washington, R-Sparks, a former defensive back for UNR, said it was difficult to schedule the game in late October, when they are in different conferences. Teams in mid- to late October are playing conference games, which is a requirement of their conference.
The resolution goes to the Assembly.
