Youth service featured this week
National Youth Service Day will be held Friday through Sunday with the intent to mobilize youth to identify and address the needs of their communities through service; recruit the next generation of volunteers; and educate the public about the year-round contributions of young people as community leaders.

Fair Housing poster contest to begin
The sixth annual Fair Housing Poster contest will kick off at 5:30 p.m. April 28 at the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors, 1750 E. Sahara Ave.
The theme, Fair Housing for Everyone, will give participants an opportunity to create an awareness of the importance of fair housing to people regardless of their race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status or disability.
All artwork created for the contest must be original in concept in a two-dimensional format. Each entry must be labeled on the back to include the students name, school, grade and teacher. Entries must be received no late than 5 p.m. Friday and can be delivered to the Clark County School District Partnership Program.

UNLV dance team sets welcome event
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Dance Team and Sport Club will hold a welcome dance from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and dance championships from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday.
Both events are scheduled at the McDermott Physical Education Complex, South Gym.
Admission is $10; $8 for students.

'Pioneer Women' to be featured
"Pioneer Women," a talk and demonstrations, is scheduled at noon and 2 p.m. Saturday at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park.
The event will spotlight women who helped settled the West. Topics include women's community contributions and occupations.

Children's Festival set for Saturday
The 10th annual Children's Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Winchester Community Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive.
Activities include indoor craft workshops and outdoor craft areas as well as carnival-style games and prizes. Admission is free.
