Prominent Nevada attorney Walsh dies

CARSON CITY -- Daniel R. Walsh, an attorney who represented numerous clients in their battles for property rights at Lake Tahoe, died Friday at the Carson-Tahoe Hospital.

He was 71.

Walsh was in private law practice for 33 years and represented such clients as entertainer Wayne Newton in disputes at Lake Tahoe.

Before that he was chief deputy attorney general, representing the state in its first civil rights cases. As chief deputy he served as legal counsel for the university system before going into private practice.

Survivors include his wife, Marguerite of Washoe Valley; sons Daniel R. Walsh Jr. and Kevin Walsh, both of Carson City; daughter Kelli Walsh Melchiorre of Sausalito, Calif.; a sister, Mary Coffey of Carson City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass burial will be celebrated Friday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Carson City. Burial will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City.
