Police arrest man after standoff

Monday, April 7, 2003 | 9:52 a.m.

Metro Police arrested a man on outstanding traffic warrants after a three-hour standoff with officers outside an apartment at 900 W. Bonanza Road on Sunday.

Metro Lt. Richard Collins said police received a call about 3:45 p.m. from a woman who said shots had been fired and that an occupant of Room 1018 at the Moulin Rouge had guns inside.

When officers responded, no one answered the door of the apartment, there was no sign of any shooting victims, no bullet casings and no blood.

In a "totally precautionary" action, Metro evacuated the apartments and removed a woman who was 8 1/2 months pregnant, taking her to University Medical Center, Collins said.

About 6:45 p.m. three women answered the room's door and allowed officers to enter. They found a man hiding in a bedroom, Collins said. He was taken to Clark County Detention Center on the traffic warrants, but no guns were found inside the apartment.

No one was injured, but 45 officers, including SWAT members in the area, were at the scene, Collins said.
