Letter: Israel shouldn’t be the country that apologizes
Monday, April 7, 2003 | 9 a.m.
In response to the diatribe against the state of Israel submitted by letter writer Steve Hutchinson on March 31, no one should hold his or her breath waiting for Israel to apologize for anything it has done to defend itself from enemies without and within.
The only apologies that should be forthcoming are from those nations and those people who berate Israel for only having acted in self-defense from its inception until this very moment.
The only apologies that should be forthcoming are from those nations and those people who deliberately cast a false light on Israel out of envy and confidence that they will suffer no repercussions for such behavior.
The only apologies that should be forthcoming are from those nations and those people who profess to believe in a higher being but who engage in lowly and despicable acts of defamation directed at Israel in order to destroy its legitimacy and existence.
Undoubtedly, Israel will forgive those nations and those people for their transgressions. That is the historical nature of the majority of the people who populate Israel. In fairness, however, most of the nations and people in the world should be on their figurative knees for eternity begging for forgiveness for the injustice that has been perpetrated against ancient Israel, modern Israel and the Israeli diaspora.
