Some candidates facing fines for late report filings

Several candidates running for Las Vegas municipal elections this year may have to pay late charges for not getting campaign reports in on time.

Mathew Paul Harter, Denise McCurry and Fernando Romero turned in their reports one day late, and Allan Smith was two days late. They could be fined $25 for each day past the deadline.

Harter and McCurry are challenging Municipal Judge Toy Gregory in Department 1. Romero is running against Councilman Gary Reese and Keith Vanderwyst in Ward 3. Smith is running for mayor.

The late reports showed Harter has raised $525 in contributions and spent $17,878. McCurry has raised $9,416 with 115 contributions of less than $100. She has spent $18,643, including $5,792 of in- kind contributions. She is $9,227 in debt.

In-kind contributions are donations of goods or services that the campaign would have otherwise paid for.

Romero has raised $13,825 and has spent $10,347, including $3,070 in in-kind contributions.

Smith said he raised no contributions and spent $2,784.

Stefany Miley and Larry Jordan Weinsteen, who are running in the open Department 6 Municipal Judge race, sent their reports by certified mail postmarked by Tuesday, so they were not considered late.

Weinsteen's report shows $800 of contributions and $300 spent.

Miley has raised $69,910 with 49 contributions less than $100. Miley also has $17,137 of in-kind contributions. She has spent $68,324 and has $1,585 left.

The primary election is Tuesday, with polls opening at 7 a.m. and closing at 7 p.m. Today is the last day of early voting.
