Sega sells some assets to Vegas company

Shuffle Master Inc. of Las Vegas said today it agreed to acquire certain assets and intellectual property owned by Sega Corp.'s Sega Gaming Technology Inc. unit, mainly related to the North American gaming market.

Terms weren't disclosed.

Shuffle Master said the transaction involves current inventory and licenses to the rights of Sega's Royal Ascot, Royal Derby, Sega Blackjack, Bingo Party and Roulette Club games.

Shuffle Master plans to expand these products by incorporating some of its table games into electronic form for casino markets.

The provider of gaming equipment expects the acquisition to close in the next several weeks, subject to due diligence and the execution of a definitive agreement.

Sega Corp., the Japanese video game-making giant, said in February it would merge with the Japanese company Sammy, a leading manufacturer of pachinko machines. Pachinko, a vertical cousin of pinball, is played in arcades in Japan for prizes, much the way Americans may play slots or poker machines where they are legal.
