Nightclub bouncer faces trial in beating case

A Las Vegas justice of the peace ruled Wednesday that there is enough evidence to warrant a trial for a local bouncer charged with beating two patrons at a nightclub.
Justice of the Peace Douglas Smith ordered Gaylen Kanoa's case to be bound over to District Court during his preliminary hearing in Las Vegas Justice Court.
The ruling came after prosecutors played videotape they claim shows Kanoa beating Christopher Ecklund and Brandy Provenzano outside the R&R Club on Jan. 18.
Kanoa's attorney, Michael Warhola, did not return calls for comment Thursday.
Kanoa, who is being held at the Clark County Detention Center without bail, is scheduled to be arraigned before District Judge Valorie Vega on April 22.
He faces one count of attempted murder and two counts of battery with substantial bodily harm.
Authorities allege Kanoa beat Ecklund with his fist and repeatedly slammed his head against a car and a concrete curb when the fight ensued. Prosecutors claim Kanoa then turned on Provenzano, striking her in the face with his fist.
