Letter: Insist legislators pass tax bill

Nevada legislators who refuse to pass Gov. Kenny Guinn's tax proposal or another viable alternative, because they see waste in government spending, remind me of those anorexic ladies who look in the mirror at their skeletal forms and see a fat person.

The statistics are there for everyone to see: Nevada is 50th among the states in Medicaid payments, almost as low in welfare payments, well below average in per-pupil expenditures for our schools, and I read recently that we are short some 60 state troopers here in Southern Nevada.

Yet these so-called legislative leaders claim that more cuts have to be made before they will pass a tax increase. Unless they act soon and pass a reasonable tax increase, Nevada will suffer the fate that many of those poor anorexic women have.

It's time for Nevadans, and particularly parents, to contact their legislators and insist they pass the needed tax bill.
