Slot makers drop litigation

Wednesday, April 2, 2003 | 9:46 a.m.

Two casino suppliers have agreed to drop patent infringement lawsuits they filed against each other over gaming software in a settlement reached Tuesday.

Shuffle Master Inc. of Las Vegas said Tuesday that WMS Gaming Inc. of Chicago agreed to drop a lawsuit it filed over Shuffle Master's alleged sales of software that allowed casino operators including WMS customers to put a Shuffle Master game in WMS slot machines.

Shuffle Master also agreed to drop its claims that WMS interfered with its efforts to promote software for a WMS slot machine at a September 2002 trade show in Las Vegas.

In settling the lawsuits, WMS and Shuffle Master have cross-licensed the game bonus method patents that were subject of the infringement claims. WMS also allowed Shuffle Master to use certain WMS trademarks in connection with the conversion of up to 10,000 WMS slot machines.
