BLM advisory board meets Friday
Wednesday, April 2, 2003 | 8:48 a.m.
The Bureau of Land Management will conduct a citizens advisory board meeting at 1 p.m. Friday at the BLM's Las Vegas field office, 4701 N. Torrey Pines Drive.
The Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act, which instructs the BLM to auction off public land to the highest bidder, will be discussed.
Money raised is used to purchase environmentally sensitive land, to fund the development of parks, trails and natural areas in Las Vegas, and for other projects.
Preliminary recommendations include using a total of $296.6 million in various ways: $41 million for land acquisitions, $114 million in capital improvements, $90.8 million for parks, trails and natural areas, $36 million for conservation initiatives and $14.4 million for developing a multiple species habitat conservation plan.
Public comment on the proposed fund allocations is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday.
The BLM's next scheduled land auction is June 5 at the County Government Center Commission Chambers.
