Open house planned for Wetlands Park
The Friends of the Desert Wetlands Park has scheduled an open house from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the temporary visitor center near Las Vegas Wash to discuss plans for the future of the park.
The temporary visitor center is at the eastern tip of Tropicana Avenue, one mile east of Boulder Highway.
A representative from Clark County Parks and Community Services will attend to answer questions about projects at the park.
Of particular interest are projects by Ducks Unlimited to build wetlands and construct trails on 80 acres west of the Nature Center.
Tour de Summerlin ride set for Saturday
The second annual Tour de Summerlin Bike Festival will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday beginning and finishing at Summerlin Centre Community Park, 1800 S. Town Center Drive.
The event features a noncompetitive bike ride, food and entertainment.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Outside Las Vegas Foundation.
Admission is $15, $25, $35 or $45.

Red Rock Canyon
National Conservation Area will host the awards ceremony for the third annual Red Rock Art Contest at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Visitor Center. The artwork is from middle and high school students. Call 515-5350.
The GFWC Junior Mesquite Club
will host its 25th annual Art Auction beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Cancun Resort, 8335 Las Vegas Blvd. South, to benefit Straight from the Streets, a nonprofit organization. Call 461-2040.
The League of Women Voters
of Las Vegas and the Henderson Allied Community Advocates Network will host an evening with candidates for Henderson City Council and Municipal Court at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway. Call 464-7887.
The National Park Service
is presenting a variety of programs throughout April beginning with a six-mile hike through scenic White Rock Canyon to hot springs near the Colorado River at 8 a.m. Saturday. Reservations are required. Call 293-8990.
The third annual Empty Bowl
benefit auction will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Green Valley High School, 460 Arroyo Grande Blvd., Henderson. A live-auction of bowls made by prominent artists will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $12; $10 for children. The Clark County Health District
is recruiting volunteers to assist with various programs including the Clark County Medical Reserve Corps, who seek health care professionals; immunizations and Well Baby Clinics, who need volunteers to assist customers with filling out forms and following procedures for accessing these programs; and Salud En Accion, a program to increase breast and cervical cancer screening among Hispanic women. These volunteers must speak fluent Spanish. Additional volunteers are needed to staff information desks and provide translation services. 383-1246.
