Letter: Bush comments way out of line

Friday, Sept. 27, 2002 | 9:19 a.m.

G.W. Bush stepped over the line when he accused the Democrats of a lack of patriotism by saying they "were not interested in national security."

Let us not forget that this same G.W. Bush dodged the Vietnam War with his family's money and influence, which kept him safe in Texas. Let us not forget that Bush was AWOL for a year in Alabama, which has never been adequately explained to us Americans.

And let us not ever forget that Saddam Hussein would not be a problem, had Bush's father not let him off the hook in 1991.

To imply that Democrats are somehow un-American and are not interested in our national security is reprehensible and he should apologize immediately.

If anyone doubts that Bush and his partisan White House goons are not using this issue for Nov. 5, take another look.

I am a lifelong Democrat who, at age 18, vounteered to fight in Korea and served in the Air Force for four years, and I deeply despise and resent his over-the-line comments about my party.
