UMC to get Medicaid funding

University Medical Center is expected to receive $7 million of the $11 million in federal Medicaid funding secured for Nevada, hospital officials said.
The hospital lost $9 million in fiscal year 2002, which ended on July 1, attributed to the growing number of uninsured patients. Hospital officials also blame the loss on insufficient reimbursement from the Medicaid program.
The funds reimburse UMC for past losses incurred in treating Medicaid patients, hospital officials said.
Sen. John Ensign, Gov. Kenny Guinn and Clark County Commissioner Erin Kenny were credited with obtaining the federal money for UMC and the state's other public hospitals.
