Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002 | 9:04 a.m.
School: Basic
Class: Senior
Sport: Football
Last week: Hawkins, a senior receiver for the Wolves, put together an impressive set of statistics in Basic's 27-6 victory over Sierra Vista. Hawkins pulled in five receptions for 150 yards and three touchdowns to lead Basic, as he and quarterback Chris Montano clicked throughout the night while the Wolves spread the ball around. "He looks like a wrangly type of kid, but he catches the ball and you've got to tackle him right now," Basic coach Cliff Frazier said. "He's tough to tackle one-on-one." Hawkins is also a standout basketball player for Basic during the winter season.
School: Cimarron-Memorial
Class: Senior
Sport: Cross country
Last week: Wicks, a senior leader on the Spartan cross country squad, continued her strong season with a victory at last weekend's Sierra Vista Invitational. Wicks completed the 2.5-mile course in 14 minutes, 53.55 seconds, beating her nearest competitor by more than 30 seconds. "You can tell she's focused and locked in to giving her best performance for the year," Cimarron coach Tim Jeffries said. "She's a real hard worker. She worked hard over the summer." Wicks won the Sunset Regional as a junior in 2001.
