Letter: Public agencies depend on taxes

Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002 | 9:11 a.m.

Call me a penny pincher, but I've been frugal since the days when money was still on the gold standard. Regardless of some occasional "senior moments," my memory is pretty much intact.

Our regional public water agency's bid for Nevada Power for lock, stock and barrel gave me a flashback of some ballot issue, for adding one quarter of a cent sales tax to the already existing 7 percent sales tax, to save our region's water agency.

Remember, public agencies don't have money of their own. It all has to come out of the taxpayer's pocket!
