Start the new week at Red Rock

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers hikes, walks and programs free of charge. To make required reservations or for more information on the following or upcoming programs, call 363-1922:

Homestead: A three-mile easy-to-moderate hike through Pine Creek Monday.

Art Hike: An easy hike with Martha on Tuesday while enjoying the beauty of Red Rock. Bring pencils, sketch pad and a journal.

Tort Talks: Ongoing talks from 9 a.m. until noon Wednesday about Nevada's state reptile and Mojave Desert resident.

A special day set for greyhounds

Three greyhound volunteer adoption groups -- Greyhound Gang, Greyhound Adoption & Rescue and Greyhound Pets of America -- will host Greyhound Planet Day Sunday at Petco, Petsmart and Wild Oats stores throughout Las Vegas.

The event is intended to celebrate the love and admiration for the greyhound and bring awareness about adoption needs of ex-racing greyhounds.

Teens get a crack at robotics

The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is offering several K'NEX K-bot workshops for teens (ages 13-17) at the Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway.

A robot-building workshop will take place from 1 until 4 p.m. Saturday and a universe-building workshop Sept. 28. Participation is $25, which includes all supplies.

The workshop will teach teens about the principles of physics and robotics, including action and reaction, traction, center of gravity and kinetic and potential energy, through hands-on involvement with K'NEX products.
