Back to School hip hop scheduled

Culture Shock Las Vegas, a nonprofit hip hop dance company and youth outreach program, will hold its Back to School Jam from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Brinley Community School, 6150 Smoke Ranch Road.

Registration begins at 12:30 p.m.

Cardio hip hop is a playful, calorie-burning set of moves based on street dance. The event allows 250 participants, ages 7-17, to relax and have fun while experiencing a workout from Culture Shock and Future Shock Dance Troupe members.

Dinners benefits Positively Kids

Buca di Beppo and local firefighters, and with entertainers Bill Acosta and the Scintas will hold a fund-raiser for the Foundation for Positively Kids from 5 p.m. to10 p.m. today and 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday at Buca di Beppo, 412 E. Flamingo Road.

All tips earned from the event, money from corporate sponsorships and 10 percent of total sales for the event go to benefit The Foundation for Positively Kids, a nonprofit foundation that seeks quality care for medically dependent and terminally ill children in Southern Nevada.

Join LV mayor for coffee, pastries

Las Vegas residents who have issues they would like to discuss with Mayor Oscar Goodman can join him for a cup of coffee and pastries at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Bagel Cafe, 301 N. Buffalo Drive.

The mayor has monthly open door meetings where constituents address their concerns with the mayor in the council chambers at City Hall. For more information, call 229-6501.

Learn how to cope with pests

The Tortoise Group is hosting a free presentation by staff from the Nevada Division of Agriculture at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Nevada State Museum and Historical Society, 700 Twin Lakes Drive in Lorenzi Park.

The group will discuss how to control unwanted pests and how to live with nonpest critters. Come with questions.

Bike marathon to battle cancer

Twenty-Four Hour Fitness will host Tour de 24 Challenge, an indoor 24-hour bike marathon from 2 p.m. Saturday through 2 p.m. Sunday at 2556 Wigwam Parkway, Henderson, to benefit the American Cancer Society.

The riders will cover more than 100,000 miles on over 1,700 stationary bikes in an effort to raise one million dollars.

Light the Night Walk set Sunday

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will present its Light the Night Walk at 7 p.m. Sunday outside Sunset Station and Sante Fe Station.

Registration is from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Cancer survivors will carry white balloons and all others will carry red balloons along a 2 to 3-mile walk within their communities. Dedication banners will be displayed to give everyone an opportunity to place a name or message in honor of or in memory of a family member or friend with cancer.

Participants will be awarded a variety of prizes based on their total fund-raising efforts. For more information, call 436-4220.
