Shots fired as man holds off police
Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002 | 9:24 a.m.
Metro Police took a Las Vegas man into custody without incident Tuesday night after he armed and barricaded himself inside a house near Valley High School.
Metro officers responded to a domestic dispute about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 2500 block of Pacific Avenue, Metro Officer Tirso Dominguez said.
As patrol officers and a special team of officers trained to handle domestic disputes spoke to another man outside the home, the suspect came to the door of the house and fired several shots, police said.
Metro Police backed off and called in SWAT and negotiators, Dominguez said.
Eric Carlisle, 22, was arrested shortly before 9 p.m. and was facing charges of two counts of attempted murder of a police officer and two counts of obstructing a police officer with a weapon, Dominguez said.
About 20 nearby homes were evacuated after the shots were fired, some to Valley High School on Eastern Avenue, south of Sahara Avenue.
Jane Beil, a nearby resident who heard a police helicopter, said she was leaving her home to run errands.
"I saw police cars blocking the end of the street," she said. "Officers asked me to leave for safety reasons and said they had the person or people contained."
