Savvy wine buys: ‘00 Louis Jadot Beaujolais
Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002 | 8:20 a.m.
Autumn is almost here, and with it comes the Beaujolais Nouveau that has become so popular in recent years. But it is a wine often sneered at by real wine drinkers, who are not quite so fond of its lightness and insipid qualities.
Much better are real Beaujolais, which come from the same region in eastern France, and which also are vinified from the Gamay grape variety. The difference is, though, that these wines go through the entire vinification process, which give the wines more body, oomph and fruit.
Beaujolais wine is best drunk within a year or two of the harvest, so that means this one, 2000 Louis Jadot, is in its prime.
Available at Wild Oats Markets, $8.49.
