Check out autumn colors at Red Rock

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers hikes, walks and programs free of charge. To make required reservations or for more information on the following or upcoming programs, call 363-1922:

Autumn Colors: A six-mile moderate hike held Sunday with Jack.

Walk on Water: A 2 1/2 mile moderate hike Monday. Learn why Red Rock harbors so many springs and "Tinajas".

Moenkopi Morning: A 2 1/2 moderately-easy hike along the Moenkopi trail, Wednesday.

Wild Horses and Burros: Ogoing talks between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday about the wild horses and burros that live in Red Rock Canyon.

Artrain makes stop in Las Vegas

Artrain USA, the nation's only traveling art museum on train, will be open for viewing from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and Sept. 28 and Sept. 29 at Pioneer Americas, 8000 W. Lake Mead Blvd.

Volunteer victims sought for drill

Las Vegas, in conjunction with the Clark County Local Emergency Planning Committee and the Justice Department, is planning to conduct a simulated disaster Thursday at Cashman Field.

The purpose of the event is to provide training for local emergency responders and hospitals.

To provide a sense of realism for the drill, coordinators need about 150 volunteers to act as victims during the exercise.

Climbing benefits HERA Foundation

The Climb for Life fund-raiser for the HERA Foundation, a group that raises money to battle ovarian cancer, will be held 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the PowerHouse Climbing Center, 8201 W. Charleston Blvd.

Climbers will tackle indoor routes ranked by point values. Former national champion climber Tiffany Campbell and others will be there to teach.

Polynesian Fest at Lake Las Vegas

The Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club and Lake Las Vegas will host a Polynesian Fest Saturday and Sunday to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Greater Las Vegas.

The event, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the resort in Henderson, will include outrigger canoe races on Lake Las Vegas, Hawaiian arts and crafts, food and demonstrations.

Small-business seminar scheduled for veterans

The Small Business Administration will hold a small-business seminar and loan expo from 9 a.m. until noon Wednesday for veterans at Nellis Air Force Base Officers Club.

The event will give veterans a chance to learn more about owning a small business to connect with SBA resource partners who can help them.

Training courses set for Boy Scout leaders

The Boulder Dam Area Council of Boy Scouts of America is holding eight training courses for new and current leaders of Boy Scout programs 7 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, 1825 N. Hollywood Blvd.

The training includes youth protection, committee member and basic leader training. Leader training for Cub Scouts also will be available in Spanish.
