NLV panel approves plans for development

Plans for three housing projects were presented to the North Las Vegas Planning Commission Wednesday night, part of the drive to develop 1,900 acres of former federal land.

Although the projects are little more than colored patches on maps at this point, North Valley Enterprises LLC received unanimous approval from the Planning Commission for all of them.

The developer purchased at auction the property north of the existing city limits from the Bureau of Land Management under the Southern Nevada Public Lands Fund.

The development is known as the Aliante Master Planned Community.

The first development for single-family homes is proposed for 52 acres at Simmons Street and Elkhorn Road.

A second development on about 26 acres at Simmons and Grand Teton Drive includes plans for single-family homes.

The developer asked to reclassify the property in both cases from a master planned community district to a single-family residence community.

The third proposed community is tentative at this point, said Las Vegas attorney Robert Gronauer, representing North Valley Enterprises.

North Valley is a partnership between developers American Nevada Corp. and Del Webb Corp. American Nevada is owned by the Greenspun family, which owns the Las Vegas Sun.

A hearing on another proposal for a 375-unit condominium complex on 30 acres at Deer Springs Way and Allen Lane on 30 acres was delayed until Oct. 23 at the developer's request.
