Man killed as he steps in front of bus

Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002 | 11:12 a.m.

A 35-year-old Texas man, who was to be sentenced today on federal computer-hacking charges, apparently committed suicide Wednesday by stepping in front of a bus on Interstate 215 in Henderson, Nevada Highway Patrol officials said.

Christopher Sandusky, of Georgetown, Texas, and formerly of Henderson, e-mailed his former wife a suicide note and left the same note on a computer in his father's Henderson home, Trooper Jim Olschlager said.

Sandusky pleaded guilty in April to hacking into the computer system at the Las Vegas-based Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging and locking the company's employees out of their own system.

Sandusky had been fired from a computer consulting company that helped set up the Steinberg system.

Sandusky was facing a possible five-year federal prison term, but a sentencing recommendation called for probation and electronic monitoring, Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Parrella said.

Sandusky was killed about 5:45 p.m. on I-215 at Green Valley Parkway.
