Confidence runs high here at Prep Picks Central after a 9-for-12 week -- no easy task with so many unknowns at the start of the season. The two second-year schools look like they'll be tough to figure, and the same could be said for many of the established programs. Nevertheless, we charge ahead, looking for that elusive perfect week.
Friday's Games CENTENNIAL (1-0) at GREEN VALLEY (0-1), 7 p.m.
Fresh off a disappointing performance against Utah's Snow Canyon, the Gators get the team no one wants to play. The Bulldogs dominated every phase of their 48-0 win over Eldorado last week, and should continue making their case as a state title contender.
Centennial 27, Green Valley 14
BISHOP GORMAN (1-0) at FOOTHILL (1-0), 7 p.m.
After their Canadian warmup, the Gaels won't find the going as easy against a tough Falcons squad. Still, with Foothill adjusting to a new QB, look for Gorman to win this one by a nose.
Gorman 21, Foothill 20
CHEYENNE (1-0) at RANCHO (1-0), 7 p.m.
An intriguing matchup, with speedsters aplenty on both sides.
Cheyenne 19, Rancho 13
DURANGO (0-1) at SILVERADO (0-1), 7 p.m.
Down to their third-string tailback, the Blazers will look to defense to lead the way.
Durango 14, Silverado 10
CIMARRON-MEMORIAL (0-1) at BASIC (1-0), 7 p.m.
The Spartans played Las Vegas tough, and should get Frank DeSantis 4A win No. 1 in this one.
Cimarron 28, Basic 21
WESTERN (1-0) at DESERT PINES (1-0), 7 p.m.
The Warriors have already eclipsed last year's win total, but let's not get carried away.
Desert Pines 34, Western 7
SIERRA VISTA (1-0) at ELDORADO (0-1), 7 p.m.
The Lions are a tempting choice, but the Sundevils don't want to start 0-2 heading to Durango in week three.
Eldorado 13, Sierra Vista 12
CLARK (0-1) at LAS VEGAS (1-0), 7 p.m.
Even last year's strong Charger squad couldn't challenge the 'Cats.
Las Vegas 28, Clark 6
PALO VERDE (0-1) at VALLEY (0-1), 7 p.m.
The Vikes couldn't get on the board against Western. 'Nuff said.
Palo Verde 20, Valley 7
BONANZA (0-1) at CORONADO (1-0), 7 p.m.
The Cougars might finish third if they were in the Southwest.
Coronado 18, Bonanza 3
MOJAVE (0-1) at CHAPARRAL (0-1), 7 p.m.
The Rattlers played Rancho tough last week.
Mojave 20, Chaparral 13
Last week: 9-3 Season record: 9-3 (.750)
