Suspect in killing of girl, 9, served time in 1996 shooting

One of the four men accused in the killing of a 9-year-old girl Saturday was convicted in 1997 in another shooting and returned to prison twice for violating parole.

Pascual Lozano was 17 when he was sentenced to 34 to 84 months in state prison for battery with a deadly weapon, according to court records.

He was convicted in a 1996 shooting that wounded several people.

Lozano, now 22, is charged along with Ricky Richardson, Vontrell Davis and Narsha Riles in the killing of Genesis Estrada, 9, outside her family's apartment in the 3400 block of Civic Center Drive.

Lozano was released from prison on parole in June 1999, but his parole was revoked soon afterward, said Ed Henderson of the state Division of Parole and Probation. The reason was not available this morning.

He was released to a halfway house in Northern Nevada in July 2000, but ran away. He was arrested in September 2000 by Metro Police and returned to prison, Henderson said.

He was released from prison in July 2001 after completing his sentence.

Police say Estrada was killed in the crossfire of a gang shooting. She protected an infant boy before she collapsed in the doorway of her apartment. Her 8-year-old sister Heidi was wounded.

A memorial fund has been set up to pay for Estrada's funeral services.
