Restaurant benefit will aid burn unit

Gilligan's Hideaway, 2601 Atlantic St., will hold its second annual charity event from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday to benefit University Medical Center's Burn Unit.

All proceeds from food sales during the benefit will be given to the burn unit. A raffle and auction will also be held.

Tickets are $9.95 at the front desk of Las Vegas Fire & Rescue; $14.95 at the door; and children ages 6-12 are half price.

Exercise mind and body at Red Rock

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers hikes, walks and programs free of charge. To make required reservations or for more information on the following or upcoming programs, call 363-1922:

Owls of Red Rock: Learn about the owls that live in Red Rock during the program Thursday and take apart and investigate an owl pellet to discover what was for dinner.

Oak Creek: A 2 1/2-mile moderate hike Thursday to look for tracks along the way.

Red Rock Day Camp: An outdoor classroom offered Friday at Red Rock Canyon to explore Red Springs and discover petroglyphs.

Mindful Walking: A yoga class taught by a certified Yoga instructor who will demonstrate warmup, walking and breathing exercises and basic postures, Saturday. Admission is $25.

Project Earth: A one-mile easy hike Saturday in which children learn some of the basic principles of "Leave No Trace," and gain an understanding of conservation, while picking up on the trail. Children will earn a "Project Earth" certificate.

Strolling in the Canyon: A short, easy walk in the canyon Sunday to chat, explore, and have fun learning some of the canyon's secrets and travel into its ancient past.

Workshops address energy practices

Clark County and the Energy Department's Rebuild America program are sponsoring workshops aimed at educating government and the public on energy management practices.

The next workshop will be 10 a.m. until noon Friday in the County Government Center Commission Chambers, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway.

The series is free and open to the public.
