Letter: Police vehicles slow speeders
Friday, Sept. 6, 2002 | 9:12 a.m.
Recently a mother wrote a letter to the Sun, saying that her daughter was saved by the highway rail barrier on U.S. 95 while she was driving along at 70 mph (the speed limit at her location is 65 mph).
And regarding the Centennial High School student who was killed driving -- speed kills. Only when miracles happen do drivers and passengers survive.
In all of the incidents I've read in the paper, everybody was speeding. Having spent 30 years in law enforcement and observing many accidents, people usually survive in accidents that happen under the speed limit -- unless they are thrown from a vehicle.
In high-accident areas, post more police vehicles and watch the speeders slow down.
