New rules would limit watercraft on lake

Personal watercraft users will have new rules to follow next spring if a ban on the one- and two-person craft is lifted, according to a draft version of rules issued by the National Park Service today.

Three rules would cover where and what kind of personal watercraft would be able to operate and at what speed. All three were already included in the federal agency's draft environmental impact statement, which received 9,000 comments from the public from April 26 to June 26.

The watercraft are being banned from the lake as of Sept. 15 until work on the environmental report is completed, which is expected in spring.
