Walsh, Ahlstrom vie for public administrator

Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002 | 11:27 a.m.

Court reporter Paula Walsh will face Chief Deputy District Attorney Dan Ahlstrom in November for public administrator to oversee the estates of those who die without wills.

Walsh was one of six Republicans vying for her party's nomination, winning against retired teacher Ann Adam, property manager Mike Schaefer, entrepreneur Ivan Tippets and Clark County residents David Austin and Bob Campagna.

But the fight is far from over for Schaefer, a former San Diego city prosecutor and two-term San Diego councilman. Schaefer, who was disbarred in Nevada last year, is also running for Congress in Arizona.

Ahlstrom, 58, was one of four Democrats fighting for the position. He ran on a platform of keeping the office of public administrator open to the public.

He has also served as deputy city attorney for the city of Las Vegas.

Ahlstrom won the Democratic nomination against county employee Gina C. Cinqugrani, attorney Adrian Mendoza and retired police officer Mike Pierson.

The office is being vacated by Jared E. Shafer.

Ahlstrom and Walsh will face Independent American Party candidate, 18-year-old high school senior Anna Kjorvestad, who ran unopposed for her party's nomination, and Green Party nominee Robert E. Parker, 45, a sociology professor.
