Savvy wine buys: ‘96 Cape View Cabernet Sauvignon
Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002 | 8:37 a.m.
We recently reviewed another cabernet from the Cape region of South Africa, so it is interesting to taste the differences here.
Similar to the pricier Lanzerac, this is a woody, fruity wine with nice balance, but unlike that wine, this is a leaner, less fruit-forward example of the winemaking genre in that country.
This is a single vineyard wine produced from a place called the Kaapzicht Estate, and its 12.5 percent alcohol by volume content, while comparatively low for this particular grape varietal, is typical of South African cabernet.
As a result, it goes down easy, and won't sneak up on you with a kick later.
Available at Lee's Discount Liquors, $19.99.
