Dinner set Saturday to help Child Haven
Southwest Engineering partners, Chip Maxfield and Mark Jones, announced their firm will host the second annual charity dinner and live auction to benefit Child Haven beginning 6 p.m. Saturday in Bellagio's Ballroom.
Sponsorships are still available and donations are being accepted for auction items. Tickets are $150.

Drum & Culture Festival this weekend
The International Drum & Culture Festival Concert will be held 6:30 p.m. Friday and noon-5 p.m. Saturday at the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd.
The festival is free and open to the public.

Poetry to benefit Twin Tower fund
The anthology, "Before Children Drew Flowers," will be released at a benefit at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Digital Galleries, 7501 W. Lake Mead Blvd., for the Twin Tower Orphan Fund.
Selected poets will read their work, and a silent auction, featuring appropriate works by local artists and donations from local business, will be held. Beverages and hors d'oeuvres will be served.
The Twin Towers Orphan Fund was formed to provide long-term higher education and health benefits to children who lost a parent at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, or one of the hijacked planes on Sept. 11. Advance tickets may be purchased by sending a $20 check or money order to: Twin Tower Orphan Fund, P.O. Box 13658, Las Vegas, NV 89112-1658. Tickets are also available at the door for $25. Ticket price includes one copy of the anthology. Information about the fund can be found on the website at http://www.ttof.org.
The anthology, Las Vegas poets' response to the terrorist attacks, was compiled by Danna Botwick, local poetry host and organizer, in conjunction with noted literary editors from across the country. Botwick may be reached at 373-9578 or by e-mail (twintowerbenefit@yahoo.com).
History Project plans luncheon on Saturday
The Nevada Women's History Project Southern Region will hold a luncheon at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Golden Steer Steakhouse, 308 W. Sahara Ave.
Joan Dimmitt and Mary Ellen Cushard will speak on the "History of Republican Women's Clubs in Southern Nevada."
Tickets are $20, which includes a three-course meal. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. For more information, call 876-3586.
Fun run to help 9/11 victims' families
Police and Fire Emerald Society of Nevada will hold a fund-raiser 5K Fun Run/Walk at 7 a.m. Saturday at Green Valley Ranch Station Casino.
Local police and firefighters will re-unite to raise funds for families of officers and firefighters who were lost in the Sept. 11 attacks in New York City.
Registration for the run is $20; $30 the day of the run. Walk registration is $12; $15 the day of the event.
The walk begins near the hotel's outdoor amphitheater. For more information, call 395-8453.
Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Church,
2120 Lindell Road, will hold a pancake breakfast and cheesecake festival from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $5 for either cheesecake and coffee or pancake breakfast. Call 873-5101.
A Lift Ticket Benefit Concert,
a series of outdoor concerts, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Smoothie King, 8502 W. Lake Mead Blvd., to provide a safe venue for local youths to socialize and support a local charity. Admission is $5. For more information, call 639-6366.
The League of Women Voters
of Las Vegas Valley and the Alliance for Better Campaigns will present the Case for Free Air Time, a forum from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.
