Chat Martin
School: Cimarron-Memorial
Class: Senior
Sport: Football
Last week: The Spartans got things rolling in the right direction with a 45-22 non-conference win over Silverado last week, and Chat Martin was a huge reason why they did. The Cimarron running back racked up a whopping 268 yards on the ground, including three touchdowns, to lead the Spartans to the comfortable victory. "He's pretty shifty. He's got good speed, but he's not going to fly away from anyone," Cimarron coach Frank DeSantis said. "He works hard and he's always got a smile on his face." Big games are nothing new for Martin, who ran for more than 300 yards last season against Mojave. The senior standout also split time between quarterback and running back as a junior. The Spartans, who will likely face the Southwest division's top seed in the opening round, take on Centennial in their final tuneup for the region playoffs on Friday.
Allison Davis and Carrie Schofield
School: Bishop Gorman
Class: Senior/Junior
Sport: Tennis
Last week: It may have been a thin week for Southern Neada individuals at the 4A state tournament, but Bishop Gorman's doubles squad of Allison Davis and Carrie Schofield made sure the Valley did not come home empty-handed. Davis and Schofield claimed the state doubles championship, that coming in addition to the Gaels taking the girls team title in Reno as well. The Gaels' stellar doubles duo did not drop a set en route to the win, and they also went undefeated in the state team final against Palo Verde. The win is extra-sweet for Davis -- though pairing with a new partner this season in Schofield, she won the doubles title for the second straight season.
