LVMS changes truck race to Saturday
Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002 | 10 a.m.
In an attempt to bolster attendance for its NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event, Las Vegas Motor Speedway officials announced they would move next year's race from Sunday afternoon to Saturday night.
The 2003 NCTS race will start at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27. This year's race was held on Sunday, Sept. 13 and attracted a crowd estimated at 15,000.
"We've wanted to run a major event at night on our superspeedway for quite some time," LVMS general manager Chris Powell said, "and we've finally been able to put the pieces together for next year.
"We're looking forward to staging one of our key events under the lights because night-time racing brings added excitement."
NASCAR is expected to release its 2003 NCTS schedule today.
