Letter: Initiative is chance to avoid high power bills
Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002 | 9 a.m.
The reason for voting yes on Question 14 is to save all of us consumers, and our children, a lot of money on our power bills in future years.
The argument for a public- instead of a private-controlled utility is made clear by the Ballot Question Committee on the official sample ballot, giving arguments for and against the ballot question. I'm personally persuaded by the arguments for voting yes. Let me quote from the pro arguments:
We consumers realize that voting yes is very practical when we remember the present private power company some months ago asked approval to increase our power rates because of over $900 million it incurred due largely to its own financial errors. Mercifully for us, our state Public Utilities Commission granted Nevada Power only about half that amount, sparing us from much higher power bills.
Let's vote yes to avoid higher power bills in the future.
