Fitness workshops scheduled in NLV

The North Las Vegas Parks and Recreation Department and the National Dance Exercise Instructor Training Association are offering two workshops -- Group Fitness at 8 a.m. Saturday and Total Body Conditioning at 8 a.m. Sunday -- at Silver Mesa Recreation Center, 4025 Allen Lane.

The cost for Saturday's workshop is $229, and $199 for Sunday's workshop.

Stroller Roll set for Summerlin

Howard Hughes Corp. will hold a Stroller Roll, a one-mile fun walk beginning 8:30 a.m. Saturday at The Trails Park, 1910 Spring Gate Lane in Summerlin.

Other activities include a raffle drawing, music, games refreshments, and visits with Summerlin Sam and other television characters.

Admission is $15; $20 for individual and baby; and $10 for addition family member; $10 team entry (10 or more people).

Volunteers needed for lake projects

As part of the National Parks America Tour, volunteers are asked to meet at the Boulder Beach picnic area at 8 a.m. Saturday to help with a variety of Lake Mead maintenance projects.

National Parks America Tour is a volunteer-driven initiative designed to provide national parks with the manpower to complete projects and to encourage visitors to care for their national treasures.

The projects will include assembling recycled wood picnic tables, restoring and painting existing picnic tables, camp ground and beach cleanup and beautification, and recycling materials at the old horse corral.

Participants will receive free entrance into the park and are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and sun screen, and to bring a hat and work gloves. Bottled water and a light breakfast will be provided. The event will end at noon with a barbecue lunch for all participants.

Meadows to host Evening of Giving

The Meadows mall invites local nonprofit organizations and charities to raise funds and awareness for their causes by selling tickets to its second annual An Evening of Giving event from 7 p.m. 10 p.m. Nov. 24.

The mall will close to the public at 6 p.m and then open for a night of shopping and holiday festivities, just for ticket holders.

Nonprofit groups may sell tickets to An Evening of Giving for $5. All of the proceeds raised from ticket sales will directly benefit the organizations selling them.

Participating organizations include Go For the Gold Booster Club, Summerlin 49er Collegiate Cheerleaders, Cimarron-Memorial High School, Las Vegas Valley Humane Society and Down Syndrome Organization of Southern Nevada.
