SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Half of a $1 billion plan to protect Lake Tahoe is off to a good start, but the next five years are critical to combatting pollution of the alpine lake, Sen. Dianne Feinstein said Sunday. Her remarks came as she and Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., hosted the annual Tahoe summit, begun by President Clinton in 1997.

Big southern Nevada growth plans on hold during air quality study

RENO, Nev. - After years of debate, the first major construction on the Reno railroad trench begins on Monday - just eight days before an election that could scrap the $282 million project. Next week's ballot question is only advisory, but two City Council members, two Council candidates and a mayoral hopeful say they will support the will of the people.
