Letter: Question 9 is pointless
Friday, Oct. 25, 2002 | 4:47 a.m.
The more I think about it, I feel that Question 9 is a joke and a complete waste of time. The ones advocating the use of marijuana have spent thousands and thousands of dollars in an attempt to pass this ballot question. Chances are, if this initiative passes, nothing will happen.
Sure, we will have a law that stipulates that marijuana can be used. However, this law will contradict with federal law. Chances are that even if we have this law, it will go to federal court, possibly even the Supreme Court, where it will most likely deem this issue as unconstitutional.
All I can say is, if Question 9 passes, enjoy the idea of using marijuana while it lasts because more than likely the federal government will determine that this issue isn't our right.
