Letter: Lumpectomy is a better choice
Friday, Oct. 25, 2002 | 9:07 a.m.
Women and breast cancer has always been an utterly disturbing issue. Whenever there is some sort of breakthrough in the treatment or early detection of breast cancer, it tends to become the ultimate topic of discussion among thousands of woman and others associated.
With the study and results on mastectomy vs. lumpectomy, it has shown considerable factors that both surgeries are equally advantageous. I think it will persuade those women, who believe that undergoing mastectomy is the better alternative, to change their minds and consider lumpectomy instead.
More women would prefer only the lump to be removed instead of their entire breast, if given the evidence which proves that the operation is just as successful.
After all, this will give women the chance to keep their precious bodies intact and, most of all, their peace of mind.
