Crafts

To celebrate the opening of its new store at Fashion Show mall, Nordstrom will hold a "Grand Opening Gala" at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Nordstrom. Admission is $150 to $500. Proceeds benefit Nevada Ballet Theatre and Opportunity Village. 880-4052.

The Golden Rainbow hosts its 36th annual Beaux Arts Ball at 10 p.m. Wednesday at Studio 54 in MGM Grand. Costume prizes will be awarded and there will be live entertainment. Admission is $15 to $20. Proceeds benefit Golden Rainbow. 384-2899.

Variety

Las Vegas' Cultural Affairs Division presents the "Alfred Hitchcock Film Festival," a series of three movies. Showtime is 7 p.m. for each movie. Tuesday is "Vertigo;" Wednesday is "The Birds;" and Thursday is "Psycho." A Halloween costume costest will be held on Thursday. Admission is $3 and popcorn is free. A program about "Chuck Wagon and Trail Cooking" is at noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park in Red Rock Canyon. The UNLV College of Liberal Arts, as part of its University Forum Lecture, presents "Classical Democracy: Greece Rome America?" at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Barrick Museum Auditorium. Admission is free. 895-3401.

Silver State Market Place at 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday will be open most weekends until June at UNLV's Sam Boyd Stadium, 7000 E. Russell Road. Admission is $1; under 12 free.
