Lake Mead Hospital will host blood drive

Lake Mead Hospital Medical Center, 1409 E. Lake Mead Blvd., North Las Vegas, will host a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the hospital.

Perspective donors must be at least 17 years or older and weigh 110 pounds or more. They must not of had a tattoo in the last 12 months and donors must show valid identification (Nevada driver's license, donor card, Social Security card, work card or a student identification card).

Those who participate in the blood drive will receive free lunch and a gift. For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact Mary Kirchhofer at 657-5769.

Auto theft prevention day hosted by police

Car owners can learn how to protect their cars from theft at an Auto Theft Prevention Day event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Station.

At noon, a team of three professional body shop workers will demonstrate how quickly car thieves can work, dismantling a car in less than 10 minutes without power tools. Free VIN etching will also be available.

The event is sponsored by Henderson Police, Metro Police and Allstate Insurance Company.

Make a difference at Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers hikes, walks and programs free of charge. To make required reservations or for more information on the following or upcoming programs, call 363-1922:

Red Rock Days: The canyon's annual cleanup contribution to National Make A Difference Day will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. To participate, just show up and sign up. The event will offer free lunch and giveaways.

Creepy Cave Ecology: The two-mile moderate hike Thursday will visit the largest cave in Red Rock. Learn the secrets of its formation.

Creepy Crawly Talk: An easy hiking adventure offered Thursday for children ages 4-12 to search, explore and discover the living desert with Ranger Vicki.

Henderson schedules Safety Expo Day

The Henderson Fire Department is sponsoring its second annual Safety Expo Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Lowe's Home Improvement Center, 440 Marks St.

The Safety Expo Day is designed to give residents an opportunity to interact with a variety of agencies that address life-safety issues and needs in Henderson.

United Blood Services will also be on hand providing an opportunity to give blood. For more information, call 566-2627.

Henderson seniors celebrate Oktoberfest

The Henderson Seniors Auxiliary will host its annual Oktoberfest at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Henderson Senior Center, 27 E. Texas Ave.

The event, co-sponsored by the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department, will include live entertainment, raffle prizes, a bake sale and a craft sale.

Individuals wishing to sell craft items may reserve their own booths, which include a table and six feet of space for $10. For more information, call 565-6990.
