Report: Microsoft faces new antitrust probe
Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002 | 9:47 a.m.
LOS ANGELES -- The Justice Department is looking into allegations that the world's largest software maker, Microsoft Corp., is withholding details of its dominant Windows operating system from competitors, a move that may harm a proposed settlement with the U.S. government to the company's 4-year antitrust case, the Los Angeles Times reported today.
Microsoft Chairman and founder Bill Gates said he is unconcerned about the newspaper report.
Microsoft's settlement with the Justice Department requires the company to disclose information needed for competitors to write programs that run on Windows.
