Planners OK condos for Aliante project

Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002 | 9:24 a.m.

Plans for residential developments and shopping areas in North Las Vegas were approved or endorsed Wednesday by the Planning Commission.

The commissioners voted 6-0 to approve a 375-unit condominium complex in the Aliante master-planned community. The condominiums are proposed for about 30 acres near the intersection of Allen Lane and Deer Springs Way within the planned 1,905-acre development.

Aliante is a project of North Valley Enterprises LLC, a partnership between developers American Nevada Corp. and Del Webb Corp. American Nevada is owned by the Greenspun family, which own the Las Vegas Sun.

A plan for a shopping center near the intersection of Decatur Boulevard and Ann Road was also approved by the commission.

The commissioners voted 6-0 to approve the overall plan from Decatur Crossing LLC, but they postponed a decision on whether to allow a tavern at the shopping center. One woman, who said she lived near the property, asked the commission to deny the request for a tavern because many children live in the neighborhood.

The commissioners also voted 6-0 to recommend the City Council approve a zoning change that would permit a plan to put office and commercial buildings, plus 193 single-family homes near the intersection of Centennial Parkway and Losee Road.

Property owner Jack Binion is requesting the zoning on the property be changed from Ranch Estates to Planned Unit Development to allow the project.

Stephen Baxter, acting director of the city Development Services Department, said the council will probably vote on the request around the end of November.

Commissioner Joy Diaz did not attend the Wednesday meeting.
