Tortoise Trot planned for benefit of Red Rock

The first Tortoise Trot, a four-mile competitive trail run and a two-mile noncompetitive trail run/walk, is scheduled at 8 a.m. Nov. 9 at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Friends of Red Rock Canyon, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and preserving Red Rock Canyon through volunteer activities, education and fund-raising.
The Howard Hughes Corp. is the primary event sponsor.
The number of participants competing in the four-mile trail run is limited to 300. First, second and third place awards will be presented to male and female winners in each of seven age categories from 14 and under to those 60 and over.
Teams of 10 or more may also enter. The entry fee is $20 per individual for those under 65, $15 per participant 65 and older and $15 per participant for those entering on a team.
The two-mile run/walk on the Moenkopi loop begins and ends at the Red Rock Visitor Center. Entry fees are $10 per individual and $7.50 per individual for those entering as a family or a group.
