Sun’s Accent section earns national award

The Accent section of the Las Vegas Sun won a third-place award in the General Excellence category of the national 2002 Missouri Lifestyle Journalism Competition, it was announced Friday.
The awards, formerly known as the Penney-Missouri awards, were judged by the University of Missouri School of Journalism in Columbia.
The Sun was honored in Class II newspapers with a daily circulation between 25,001 and 50,000. Finishing first was The Vancouver (Wash.) Columbian and placing second was The Free Lance-Star of Fredericksburg, Va.
The Sun submitted three entries from the week of May 6, 2001, and an additional single Accent section from the contest year of Oct. 1, 2000, to Aug. 31, 2001.
