Metro Police homicide detectives charged a 32-year-old Las Vegas man with murder Tuesday after police found the strangled body of his former girlfriend in the desert.
Arie Redeker is cooperating with police, homicide Lt. Tom Monahan said. He is being held in the Clark County Detention Center.
The Clark County coroner's office identified the victim as Skawduan Lannan, 40.
Lannan's parents called police after receiving a call from an employee of a Citicorp day-care center, who said Lannan never picked up her child.
The grandparents picked up the child and called police. Patrol officers met them at the home Lannan once shared with Redeker in the 9700 block of Manheim Lane.
While officers were talking to the child's grandparents, Redeker drove by in Lannan's car. The officers flagged Redeker down, Monahan said, and he agreed to cooperate.
