Public warned of drivers’ scam
Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002 | 9:59 a.m.
Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa is warning the public about a scam that targets people through newspaper and Internet ads seeking drivers for car shows.
The ad says that drivers will be required to drive "high-end" automobiles such as Bentleys and Ferraris.
Victims who call the number in the ad are instructed to send several hundred dollars by Western Union as a "security deposit" for driving the expensive automobiles, but the driving jobs never come through.
Anyone with information, concerns or complaints regarding this scam should contact the bureau in Las Vegas at (702) 486-3194 or in Carson City at (775) 687-6300.
