Argument ends in woman's death
An argument between two women late Monday in the 200 block of Marion Drive ended in the death of one and the other charged with murder, Metro Police Lt. Tom Monahan said.
Metro officers, who were called with paramedics to the home near Lamb Boulevard and Stewart Avenue about 4 p.m. Monday, discovered the woman dead inside the home. A second woman outside the house claimed to have stabbed the victim, police said.
Kenya Johnson, 27, was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of murder with a weapon, Monahan said.
LV man convicted in bank scheme
A Las Vegas man has been found guilty of running a series of schemes involving unauthorized withdrawals from victims' bank accounts and defrauding financial institutions.
Myles Stanley Jackson was found guilty of conspiracy, mail fraud, wire fraud, bank fraud and aiding and abetting by a federal jury on Friday. Jackson is facing up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each conviction, U.S. attorney spokeswoman Natalie Collins said.
The schemes took place from May 2001 through April 2002 and resulted in seven victims losing a total of $90,060, according to court records.
Driver sentenced in fatal crash
A 32-year-old Las Vegas man accused of causing an accident that killed a woman and seriously injured two other people was sentenced to six to 20 years in prison Monday.
Thomas Mannix was sentenced by District Judge Nancy Saitta after pleading guilty to three counts of felony driving under the influence and one count of felony leaving the scene of an accident, Chief Deputy District Attorney Gary Booker said .
According to police, Mannix was driving a Buick Roadmaster erratically at a high rate of speed when he drove through the intersection of Charleston Boulevard and Buffalo Drive, hitting two vehicles.
Mannix's passenger, Deborah Fornuto, 47, was killed in the July crash. All of the others involved in the accident received moderate injuries.
Flood work will disrupt traffic
Traffic on Rancho Drive between Decatur Boulevard and Smoke Ranch Road, and on Carey Avenue between Simmons Street and Rancho Drive, will be disrupted for the next four weeks starting today due to work on a storm drain.
Temporary closures on Rancho Drive in the southbound lanes will block traffic to Decatur. Drivers will be routed to Smoke Ranch Road. Northbound traffic on Rancho will not be affected.
The westbound lane on Carey will be closed to through travel between Simmons and Rancho. Lake Mead Boulevard is suggested as an alternate route for westbound traffic. The eastbound lane and access to the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Fiesta will remain open.
Sunset Road closure planned
Sunset Road will be closed this weekend to through traffic between Boulder Highway and the relocated Gibson Road.
The closure will be from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.
The Henderson Public Works Department will be working on a reinforced concrete box storm drain.
The detour for drivers westbound on Sunset is Gibson Road, southbound to Warm Springs Road, westbound to Marks Street and northbound to Sunset Road. Those traveling eastbound on Sunset will have to detour southbound on Marks Street, eastbound on Warm Springs and northbound on Gibson Road to Sunset.
Access to Boulder Highway will be provided from the west on Sunset Road.
