Nevada, Las Vegas jobless rates decline

Nevada's jobless rate dipped slightly to 4.9 percent in September, compared with 5 percent in August, as the number of out-of-work Nevadans dropped from 52,600 to 51,200.
The state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation said Monday that nearly 1.1 million people were working in Nevada during September.
The state's 4.9 percent rate compares with a national average of 5.6 percent and neighboring California's rate of 6.3 percent.
In Las Vegas, the jobless rate was 5.1 percent, down from 5.2 percent in August. Of the statewide total of jobless people, about 42,700 were in the Las Vegas area and other towns and cities in Clark County. Also included in the area are Nye County, Nev., and Mohave County, Ariz.
